                   2006 Drought Response
Drought Links:
There are several websites with important information related to the drought, such as phone numbers to call for information and the opportunity to talk about your situation (211 in more populated areas, 1-800-664-1349 in more rural areas) , pamphlets that can be downloaded giving advice on everything from family stress to finances (SDSU extension website),    information on mediation and financial counseling. (click on underlined areas of interest.)

The United Methodist Church - Dakotas Conference - now has a webpage created with materials available online at: <http://www.dakotasumc.org/ecumenical_efforts.html>.   A promotional poster and a worship bulletin insert (pdf documents) are available for both North and South Dakota.  All materials use black and white line art because that is easiest for small churches to reproduce on a copy machine.

Materials specific to the United Methodist Church are online at <http://www.dakotasumc.org/hands_across_dakotas.html>  Because the United Methodist denomination combines North and South Dakota, They are calling their effort Hands Across Dakotas.

It's impossible to measure the impact of the drought on families in SD because it effects everyone differently.  Some seem to be suffering more than others.  Some suffer loudly, others silently.  Some are detemined to hang on, others to sell out.  For some it seems to dominate their lives.  Others take it in stride.  Some see it as a sign of things to come, as evidence of global warming, perhaps.  Others as a passing inconvenience, a passage they've survived before.

We'll try to use this page as a place for some reflection, and a link to helpful websites for those who wish to explore them.
