ACC/SD to Study Rural South Dakota Future

The Association of Christian Churches of South Dakota has taken an affirmative step to plan for the future in rural South Dakota.  At a meeting of the ACC/SD board of directors on October 22, an action was taken to create a Committee for the Future, to study trends and possible changes in South Dakota rural communities over the next ten years.

The Rev. Christian Franklin, president of the board of directors, emphasized that the church can be a positive force in helping to shape the future of rural communities, if it will plan to do so. He said the church should be an active leader rather than passive and reactive.  ACC/SD member churches will appoint representatives to serve on the new committee.

The purposes of the new committee will be to assess current trends and where they appear to be leading, to attempt to describe rural South Dakota in the next decade, and to make recommendations to anticipate change to local and state leadership.

Convener for the new committee will be Tom Kilian, director, the Rural Initiative Center, a service agency of the ACC/SD.  Persons who would like information or who may wish to serve on the committee can contact Kilian at:  100 S. Spring Ave., Suite 106, Sioux Falls 57104, or by calling (605) 334-1980, or at office@accsd.org.

Chaplaincy Advisory Committee

(Submitted by Rev. Jan Voelzke, President)

Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year from the Chaplaincy Advisory Committee. Christmas is all about God's love and mercy.  We are thankful for those that minister in the prisons and those that help support us with prayers and finances.

There are increasing needs as population increases.  Christmas cards will be given to those inmates who want them.  Treat bags will be distributed before Christmas. Thank you for giving to the Lord!  "And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, and sisters, you were doing it to me!'" NLB Math 25:40
